Teacher's Comments

Optimistic Oval class are named after Oval Station, on the London Underground. We are optimistic because we are hopeful and confident about the future learning ahead of us in Year One.

The area that is now the world famous Oval cricket ground was originally a cabbage garden and a market garden. Oval class will be investigating where the food we eat comes from.

Another London connection for Oval Class is our class author John Burningham. He lives in North London. I wonder if he loves cricket as much as he loves writing and illustrating stories for children. We are looking forward to a visit to The Oval cricket ground, and we love reading John Burningham’s London based stories. Have you ever seen Borka the goose at Kew gardens?

Oval class know that it is fine to sometimes make mistakes as we explore as it helps us learn. They will not be afraid to investigate and question the world around them. The children love to learn, because in Oval class learning is fun, engaging and exciting.

We will continue to challenge ourselves through sport this year. We aim to develop ourselves to become stronger and fitter and to live a healthy lifestyle. We are looking forward to learning how to play cricket as a team. During our Spotlight On Sport we are going to have fun applying our mathematical knowledge to the sports of darts and snooker!

We hope you will come to see our learning in action very soon!
