Teacher's Comments

We are the heroic Holmes! We are named after the Olympic Gold medallist Kelly Holmes.

In Holmes class we are helpful, friendly, caring and happy. We love to learn and we always strive to do our best.

At the start of our life at school, we are going to be learning lots of the useful skills we need to be successful later on: skills like listening, communicating and co-operating. We learn best when we're having fun and so we take part in lots of independent and focused activities through play. We're very curious and love to explore the world around us, which is a very important part of learning, as well as beginning to learn how to read, make marks and count.

Lots of our learning is going to be through songs, rhymes and stories. This year, our class author is Sam Taplin, who has written and illustrated many books for young children. We enjoy his books because of their bright and colourful pictures as well as their interactive sounds. One of his stories we will be looking at is ‘Jungle sounds’, this book requires good listening skills and taking turns to discover the different animal sounds in the jungle.

We are looking forward to some exciting trips this year, as this year we had gone to the Wimbledon Theatre to see ‘The Everywhere Bear’ and visited our local library which we had enjoyed. There will also be visitors and workshops throughout the year to help compliment and stimulate our learning.

We have a goal, in Holmes; to stay active, healthy and happy. To help us with this, we have a different ‘Spotlight on Sport’ every term. This term, Foundation Stage are concentrating on skittles and target practise to improve our aim, concentration and strength while inspiring an enthusiasm and sense of fun about keeping fit.
